January 26, 2025 FSA Grooming Report

CONDITIONS:

This morning: -15C in town this morning, -12C at cabin elevation this morning with 6km/hr winds. 0cm new snow in the past 7 days . Total snowpack heights variable based on riding zone but 178 cm measured at the plot at 120cm measured at upper elevations in exposed areas tis week. Total snowfall this season 461cm.

The last two weeks have brought little new snow due to the typical January dry spell. Riders can expect a variety of conditions. In exposed areas at higher elevations, the snow is generally wind-hardened and firm, while mid and lower, sheltered zones seem to still be offering about 10 cm of softer, windblown snow resting on a well-packed base. All trails are in excellent condition.

Today: Possible morning low cloud and fog patches, otherwise sunny with a few bands of cloud.  High -5 or -6.

Tonight: Mainly clear during the evening, low cloud and fog patches developing overnight. Low near -10.

GROOMING:

JAN 26, 2025: Our Coal Creek grooming team yesterday discovered a shaft seal on the fan pump failed and engine was sucking engine oil into hydraulic system at the start of their shift. We have parts on the way from Prinoth in Calgary and our team will need to replace the fan pump and then flush the hydraulic system. We anticipate this work being completed by mid-week. Coal Creek and Morrissey trails are still in excellent condition with less than 50 riders since last groom. Our team are monitoring trail conditions and if needed we will look at alternative grooming options including moving one of the other snowcats over.

Staging is at our regular valley bottom parking areas and all trails have great coverage.

Corbin: Groomed Friday.

Coal Creek: Coal Creek, Summit and Doug Dean Trail groomed Friday night.

Morrissey: Morrissey and McEvoy groomed Friday night.

Hartley: Groomed Friday.

Ram: Open. No grooming.
