Ladies & Gentlemen… Start Your Engines!

Dec 2, 2022

The Fernie Snowmobile Association is excited to officially open the doors at our CORBIN riding area and welcome sledders back for another incredible season. Conditions on the trail are excellent early season riding but please ride with caution in all areas as natural and man-made hazards may exist.

REMINDER: ALL TRAIL USERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHOW THEIR TRAIL PASS OR MEMBERSHIP AT THE TRAILHEAD STARTING THIS SATURDAY.

CORBIN CONDITIONS

  • 120cm of settled snowpack mid-mountain

  • 66cm of new snow received in the past 7 days

  • Temperatures this morning at the staging area were -27C which creates the nice light dry powder snow we love but also results in a significant hazard for frost-bite and hypothermia. Please dress appropriately and have suitable gear on your person to survive a unexpected prolonged period outdoors in case of an emergency.

  • Grooming Friday and Monday weekly from the staging area to the McClatchie as avalanche conditions allow.

OTHER RIDING AREAS

  • Morrissey remains CLOSED due to logging and industrial activity. Absolutely no snowmobiling is permitted. Remember - riding on a plowed road is illegal in BC. Not only will you receive a significant fine, but you also damage our relationship with stakeholders and you put yourself and our industrial partners at risk while they are doing their job. Expect heavy industrial traffic up and down the canyon with no room for parking or pullouts - again in case you did not read it above ABSOLUTELY NO SNOWMOBILING AT MORRISSEY. If you are riding here YOU are causing a delay in this area opening for public recreation access this season. Expect to be towed.

  • Coal Creek opening Dec 17th. The team is repairing a surprise hydrostatic pump issue and working around the clock to ensure grooming start up remains on schedule. Road building starts Dec 12th so please watch for the snowcat on the trail at all times. Grooming every night except Tuesday.

  • Hartley expected opening Dec 22nd. Grooming Thursdays each week.

Putting the final touches on the Coal Creek network snowcat.
