FSA TRAIL ACCESS UPDATE
JANUARY 20, 2022 UPDATE:
We are beyond stoked to announce that as of January 14th, temporary access to all main Fernie snowmobile areas has been restored following the devastating atmospheric river events this fall.
This is the direct action many individuals that have worked hundreds of hours behind the scenes, our local businesses, and government partners who believe in the value that sledding brings to our community.
We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to the FSA Executive Team, the work party volunteers, the City of Fernie, the Regional District of East Kootenay, Fernie Wilderness Adventures, Tourism Fernie BC, CanWel, Canfor, Ter Contracting, the British Columbia Snowmobile Federation - BCSF, Tom Shypitka, the BC Transportation and Infrastructure, the Engineering team at FLRNO, our incredible Corporate Partners and local businesses for their support.
And, of course, a huge thank you goes out to all our members and day use riders - THIS is your trail dollars at work. If you are stoked on these efforts, please support our community and the club by purchasing a membership or your day trail passes online HERE. This is a very dynamic situation and I would encourage you to keep checking back with us for updates and information posted in our daily Groomer’s Reports.
Cheers,
Justin
FSA President
DETAILS
MORRISSEY: OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK
Construction on the new permanent bridge has been delayed. The temporary bypass bridge is providing excellent access for public at this time. We would like to remind all riders that this access corridor has been generously provided by Fernie Wilderness Adventures through their private property - please respect this generous allowance and stay on the designated trail, reduce speed to 10km/hr and watch for snowcats on road at all times. Grooming 4 nights a week, Wranglers Cabin, and both parking lots are open.
COAL CREEK: OPEN SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS ONLY
It is critically important to note that we are currently operating out of a temporary staging area at Coal Creek that can only accommodate about 10-15 vehicles parked near the River Road Extension junction. Trucks hauling trailers are NOT permitted as there is no turn around. Access to the parking area will be via St Margaret's Road. Do not park in the Montane non-motorized recreation area (near the barn). Starting Monday, January 24th public access will be limited to weekends only as heavy equipment is on site repairing the main road that will restore access to our main staging area. If you are hauling a trailer, there is more than 15 vehicles already parked, or it is Mon-Fri you must use Morrissey Staging area instead (20min South of Fernie on Hwy 3). Grooming 4 nights a week, Rolling Hills Cabin open.
CORBIN: OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK
The FSA has worked with Canfor to complete additional logging beside the road in efforts widen the groomed bypass trail between the staging area and the Barnes Elliot junction to facilitate simultaneous timber-harvesting and snowmobile access. Please use caution as there is some woody debris and a few remaining tight sections. Active hauling - do not snowmobile on the plowed road. We anticipate harvesting activities to be complete in early February. Grooming 2 nights a week.
HARTLEY: OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK
First groom of the season was completed January 12th from the staging area to the East Fork of the Sulphur.
RAM: CLOSED
Ram remains closed due to extremely large washout near 45km. FLNRO has indicated they have no immediate plans to repair the road at this time. The Ram warming shelter remains locked and closed to public at this time.
