FSA TRAILS UPDATE

February 25, 2022: Work continues in the Elk Valley to repair fall flood damage and work cooperatively with our industry partners to maintain backcountry access. See January Update and early February Update).

Corbin:

Canfor has advised they are now completed logging operations in the Barnes / Elliot area and will be removing all harvesting equipment today. Our team will be working through the night to blade snow back on the first section of the Corbin road where hauling was occurring. Please note that this ‘rebuilt’ section of trail with the reclaimed snow may have woody debris and rocks embedded in it until we receive further snowfall. All riders should travel slowly and with caution. The remaining back half of trail from the junction to the McClatchie previously undisturbed by logging activity remains in excellent groomed condition. At this time, we do not have authorization to re-blade the snow onto the section of road from the main Corbin trail up to the Barnes / Elliot single track. Riders should expect bare road conditions here until we receive further snowfall. Grooming from the staging area to the McClatchie Friday and Sunday’s each week.

THANK YOU CANFOR FOR WORKING WITH THE FSA ON THE BYPASS TRAIL THAT KEPT BACKCOUNTRY ACCESS OPEN DURING LOGGING! A GREAT EXAMPLE OF INDUSTRY AND RECREATION WORKING COOPERATIVELY TOGETHER!

COAL CREEK:

As we noted in our earlier update, repair work to the main Coal Creek road has been completed and public has been able to stage out of the main parking lot since February 19th. There is currently active logging and hauling from the Rifle Range Road area down Coal Creek road at all times - please watch for logging trucks and posted call up/down or pull over procedures when travelling on the road. The gun range is now also re-open and sledders should ensure they keep out for obvious reasons. Please do not park in front of the gun range gates or shooting platform to allow their members access to the site. The new winter trail constructed around the fall flood damage on the lower section of trail has received excellent reviews. Work will continue this spring and summer to improve the trail surface for summer recreation use. Grooming 4 nights a week.

Morrissey:

With Coal Creek now open, repair work has started up Morrissey. The main bridge over the Elk River (before the train tracks) is being resurfaced which will result in a FULL CLOSURE between 9am - 5pm February 28th - March 3 and March 7 - March 10th. Work is also in progress on the new bridge above the trailhead kiosk. All public should expect closures, delays, and heavy equipment operating at all times - use of Morrissey is not recommended. We will be reducing our parking lot maintenance as a result but the upper Morrissey trail will continue to be groomed 4 nights a week.

Ram:

Remains closed due to large, impassable washout at km45. FLNRO has indicated they have no plans to repair this ‘wilderness status’ road at this time. There is currently no access and no ride around route option. The cabin pass warming shelter will remain locked as a result.

Hartley:

Hartley remains open with no flood damage or issues this season. A reminder that the access road to the staging area is steep, winding with poor visibility and no pull outs. Trucks hauling trailers are not permitted for this reason and all other traffic should carry chains. Grooming as collected trail fees permit. Read more about collection of day use fees HERE.
