January 4, 2025 FSA Grooming Report


CONDITIONS:

-13C at cabin elevation. trace amounts of new snow in the past 24 hours. 49cm in the past 7 days. Total snowpack heights variable based on riding zone but 220cm measured at the plot. Total snowfall this season 447cm. Riders can look forward to 30-50 cm or more of settling snow from this week’s storm cycle. Conditions remain highly variable, with wind-affected snow at exposed high elevations and deeper, softer powder in sheltered areas at or below treeline. Groomed trails are in excellent condition throughout.

Today: Cloudy with a few flurries or occasional snow during the morning.  Cloudy with a 60% chance of flurries and possible sunny breaks during the afternoon.  Light accumulation, possible 2 to 5 cm.  Windy at times, mainly during the morning.  High near -6.

Tonight: Mainly cloudy with a 60% chance of flurries during the evening.  Occasional snow overnight.  Light accumulation.  Low -7 or -8.


EVENT - TODAY JAN 4th - Coal Creek

FSA Trail Tour & BBQ

This event began as a novice and intermediate ladies ride but we had so many requests for families to join that now everyone is welcome!!

Join the FSA on January 4th for a Trail Tour and BBQ! If you are looking to become more familiar with riding zones in the Coal Creek and Morrissey areas, want to meet new riders, learn tips and tricks to enhance your riding day, or just enjoy a great BBQ with friends - come on out!

We'll be departing the Coal Creek Staging Area at 9:30 am and hitting the trails as a group from there. All abilities welcome. A BBQ lunch will be provided for FREE for FSA Members at the Wranglers Cabin. Riders can expect to be back at the staging area around 4:30pm.

Advanced registration is required to help us plan food and bevies.

We will be accepting donations at the trailhead for the Fernie Women's Resource Center who are in need of diapers, baby formula, wipes, unused toiletries and personal care items. More info HERE.


GROOMING:

We’re Open! Staging is at our regular valley bottom parking areas and all trails have great coverage.

Corbin: Groomed from the staging area to the McClatchie and Barnes connector last night.

Coal Creek: Coal Creek, Doug Dean, Summit Trails groomed last night. Matheson (left and right) groomed 2 days ago. We also started building up the kids zone on lower Coal Creek - watch for some fun rollers and bermed corners on this little track suitable for sleds up to 400cc’s.

Morrissey: Morrissey, McEvoy, and Pipeline groomed last night. Notch Trail groomed two days ago.

Hartley: Groomed Dec 27th. Parking lot partially plowed last night but blocked by vehicles in the way.

Ram: Open. No grooming.
