New Pit Toilet at Corbin Staging Area

On October 23rd, 2021, a dedicated team of ten volunteers installed a new pit toilet near the Corbin staging area trailhead. The crew worked through the first big storm of the season, battling rain, near-freezing temperatures, and even a little snow to dig the hole and get the structure built.

A special thank you to the Shepherd family for use of the backhoe and to our partners Recreation Sites and Trails BC for providing the pit toilet kit. From start to finish, it took over two years to complete the planning, site inspection, application, and public stakeholder consultation process to see this to fruition. ‘We are incredibly proud to work with our partners at RSTBC to be able to enhance public recreation infrastructure at this popular location’, says Fernie Snowmobile Association Director Nicole Matei.

The pit toilet will be maintained year round by the FSA and available for use by sledders, ski tourers, mountain bikers, hikers, horse back riders, trappers, and the wide variety of other users that frequent the Corbin area.
