Grooming Report, January 12 2022

Weather:

34cm of new snow in the past 24 hours. 59cm the past 7 days. Total snowpack heights near 3m. From Avalanche Canada: Avalanche conditions remain very dangerous with warm temperatures, recent new snow that formed a dense storm slab and a persistent weak layer in the snowpack

Grooming:

Coal Creek: Opens Friday. Very limited parking - room for only 10-15 trucks/decks at this time on shoulder of the road. No access permitted for trailers as there is no turn around. Access via St Margaret’s Cemetery Road. If there are are 10-15 vehicles already parked OR if you are hauling a trailer you MUST STAGE OUT OF MORRISSEY INSTEAD (20 min south of Fernie on Hwy 3). New snowmobile trail commences opposite River Road Extension. Please respect the parking restrictions or it will be closed again.

Morrissey: Morrissey Trail, Summit Trail groomed plus Coal Creek road building yesterday. Next groom Friday.

Hartley: Groomed today from the staging area to the East Fork of the Sulphur.

Corbin: Groomed from staging area to Rain Gauge today. Canfor has done some logging to widen the road and bypass trail to better accommodate simultaneous traffic. Active hauling on road 7 days a week - stay on the groomed bypass trail. Regular trail commences after the Barnes Elliot junction.

Ram: Closed due to extremely large road washout from fall floods.

Rebuilding the Corbin bypass trail following Canfor removing trees to widen roadway this week.
