Avalanche Awareness Days
January 23 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
We might not be able to gather as usual and host one of our favorite events of the season, Avalanche Awareness Days, but we are not going to stop donating to a cause very important to our local snowmobile community.
This Saturday, January 23rd trailhead proceeds (and donations) collected at Morrissey will be donated to Avalanche Canada in support of our local Avalanche Canada South Rockies Field Team. This field team is a critical missing link in our massive data-sparse sledding region. The crew travels on sleds and skis to various zones in the Elk Valley and beyond, collecting important snowpack and weather observations which are fed up to the forecasting team in Revelstoke. This data is used to help create accurate public avalanche bulletins for both the South Rockies and the Lizard Flathead avalanche bulletin regions.
Don’t forget, local event partners Elk Valley Snow Shepherds are also offering a FREE Companion Rescue Skills Course to FSA members this season to help you brush up on your technique (limited seats left).
How can you help? Stage at Morrissey this Saturday and we’ll take care of the contribution via your day ticket. Not riding, are a member but would still like to support? Purchase an FSA day ticket online here: https://ferniesnowmobile.com/membership/ and we’ll transfer the funds or use the ‘Contribute Now’ button here: https://ferniesnowmobile.com/become-a-sponsor/.
